Electric battery warranties: confidence included

Like most things in life, electric vehicle batteries are subject to natural wear and tear. That’s why every all-electric or hybrid Volkswagen comes with an EV battery warranty.

What’s included in the warranty?

We’re so confident in our battery technology, that every Volkswagen all-electric and hybrid vehicle comes with a warranty for up to 8 years or 100,000 miles from point of first registration (whichever comes first). This ensures your battery retains at least 70% of its original capacity over this time period/distance. The warranty is available from new and can be passed on to future owners.

Electric vehicle batteries generally have a lifespan upwards of 10 years (or 100,000 miles). A hybrid vehicle battery lifespan tends to be about the same. However, this cannot be guaranteed, and because EV batteries are expensive to repair or replace, having coverage for most of a battery’s lifespan is a must.

Whilst your electric battery is covered by our warranty, there are also certain practices you can put in place to help prolong its life. Here are our three golden rules...

Rule 1

Only charge to 80%

If you’re mainly making short trips, only ever charge your vehicle’s battery to 80%.

Rule 2

Minimise fast charging

There will be times when fast charging is necessary, but the best way to charge is overnight from a home wallbox.

Rule 3

Use a charge timer

To fully charge your vehicle (100%), use a charge timer so you can drive off immediately after charging is complete. This ensures your battery isn’t sitting for too long with a full charge.

Here are some FAQs about our electric battery warranty...

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and its authorised repairers reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to choose whether to repair or replace a high voltage battery.  Any part which is replaced becomes the property of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Any replaced high voltage batteries are covered for the unexpired period of the battery warranty.
